Miikka Salminen promoted to Lead Data Scientist

It is our pleasure to announce Miikka Salminen’s promotion to the position of Lead Data Scientist, starting October 1st, 2024. In his new role, Miikka will lead the development of the company’s machine learning work.

Miikka has been with Cerenion since 2018, when the newly established company took its first steps and it was the time to hire the first ever employees. One of them was Miikka, who had until then worked as a researcher at the University of Oulu. During the past six years, Miikka has lived through the early stages of the young start-up and also become the longest-time employee in the company. His contribution to the R&D team’s day-to-day working routines and technology stack selections has been fundamental. First and foremost, Miikka has been responsible for the software architecture from the very beginning, so it is fair to say that the current C-Trend® Software Library wouldn’t exist without him.

In his new role, Miikka will take a step towards his roots in science, applying machine learning techniques to the future versions of C-Trend Software. “I’m really excited to accept such major responsibility in defining how Cerenion applies scientific evidence to build and further enhance our products.”

In his free time, Miikka likes to unwind by taking long walks in the nature with binoculars, observing birds. This for him is the best way to relax and appreciate the world around us. Miikka claims to have observed 137 different species in 2024 so far, so he is only two steps behind last year’s final count of 139.

We congratulate Miikka for the well-deserved promotion and wish him much success in the new role.
