Finnish exports of medical devices grow to a trade surplus of 1.1 billion euros; Cerenion referred to as “technology of the future”

Cerenion was named in a recent story by the Finnish national broadcasting company, YLE. The story on the medical device sector in Finland reported on continuing growth from the year 1996. In 2019, the Finnish medical device exports reached 2.4 billion euros and a trade surplus of 1.1 billion euros for the year. The figures based on the records of the Finnish Customs office were compiled by Healthtech Finland, a non-profit consortium of medical technology operators in Finland. According to the original report the cumulative trade surplus for the years 1996 - 2019 now reached almost 13 billion euros.

In the story, Professor Maritta Perälä-Heape, Director of the Center of Health and Technology, brings up Cerenion’s upcoming brain monitoring solution for the ICU as an example of the technology of the future. She also notes the recent two-million-euro funding round closed by Cerenion.

Finland, despite its size of only 5.5 million inhabitants, is a significant exporter of medical technology, particularly in the field of medical devices (including patient monitoring devices) where exports grew by 5.1% to 1.7 billion euros in 2019 according to the figures compiled by Healthtech Finland. The biggest export countries for Finnish products are the USA (38.5%), China (8.6%), Germany (7.3%), Great Britain and France.

Cerenion’s C-Trend(R) technology is currently undergoing evaluation for CE-marking and is expected to ship soon within the European market area.
